FL-GOA: Florida's Goa, Acid Techno, Psychedelic Electronic Scene.

The FL-GOA Portal is designed as a central reference point to anyone in the state of Florida into these styles of music. This forum is devoted to improving and expanding upon the rather small scene within Florida state for goa trance, psychedelic trance and psychedelic breaks. These styles all possess an enormous potential for popularity within this state (and the U.S. as a whole) but unfortunately have not yet been promoted to their fullest extent. That is the purpose of this mailing list and discussion group. Discussions of existing psy/goa/techno artists (located anywhere in the world), as well as discussions of promotions, productions, in addition to advertisements for events are freely welcome on this list.

FL-GOA also aims to compile the definitive list of websites, forums and myspace communities which are also devoted to these styles, to allow Florida fans to better connect to other fans of these styles (in Florida, and elsewhere in the world).

A community for all lovers of Florida Breakbeats + Electro.

This group has become the Euphoria Project's greatest internet success story - with OVER THREE THOUSAND MEMBERS!!!!, and containing many of the largest producers + DJs in the electronic music community, this has truly become a definitive resource for our community.

Containing the only comprehensive listing of Florida electronic musicians on MySpace, this feature alone would make the FL BREAKS + ELECTRO Myspace group a truly invaluable resource. In addition to that, it also offers an excellent forum containing numerous announcements of upcoming events, as well as an incredibly large and diverse member base. For promoters of Florida breaks & electro parties, this provides an unprecedented promotional opportunity, as posting a single bulletin or forum topic will reach an incredibly wide array of people who will be specifically interested in the styles you're promoting.

This portal is a subset and partner of Euphoria Project's sister site, Florida Breaks.org.

This list is devoted to an exploration of the darker side of electronic music - not quite gothic, but definitely not cheery stuff, either. Originally created out of a desire to further explore the world around such groups as Enigma, Delerium, Hooverphonic, Deep Forest, etc, this list has become an incredibly active resource for the world of ETHEREAL music, basically a melding of new age, gothic, and trance. Great list, very active, lots of ads but it's 100% on-topic.

PLEASE SUGGEST ANY ADDITIONAL
SITES THAT WE MIGHT ADD!

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are promoting your events on any of these forums, please take a moment to read over the forum rules or guidelines (for each individual forum) before you begin contributing. Some may be devoted only to certain particular styles of music; others may be confined to a specific geographic region; while still others may have a particular format or special requirements in order for you to advertise with them.

This is just a simple warning; there's not a lot any of these forums can do if you break their rules (aside from banning your account), though if you begin building a reputation as a shady promoter, word DOES get around. The state of Florida may have a very large and diverse community, but it is also quite close-knit, particularly within the underground. We need more REPUTABLE, HONORABLE promoters and production companies out there - we've already had more than our share of fly by night, shady operations.

Be cool, be smart, and ENJOY THIS RESOURCE! I've spent a thoroughly INSANE amount of hours compiling this list, and the more people who contribute to each one of these resources, the better! (Nothing's worse, after all, then being only one of a small handful of promoters posting to a particular forum. It's always great to go around and see a great selection of ads on each new forum you come across). Have a good one!

My philosophy as far as event promotion is concerned:

I join every single list, every single group, every single forum, that I possibly can - and (as long as it's on-topic according to their rules) I advertise on every single one of them. Even if it's a group with only 5 members, I still advertise on it, because one of those members might POTENTIALLY be reading ONLY that, and NONE others. Alternatively, that one group may be the very first one to come up in a Google or Yahoo search, and if your event isn't listed - the person searching might never find out about your event.

Thus, through the process of promoting this database, I SINCERELY hope that fellow promoters will join every single one of these lists and forums as well. That way, the larger each list becomes, the more viable a promotional source it is. Even if it's a list which contains 40 different promoters, and those promoters are the only ones reading and/or contributing to that list - it's STILL one extra place where people could potentially read your event announcement. Hence - no publicity is bad publicity.

Footnote: If you ever receive any complaints about your advertisements from any list members, or especially the list owner or moderator - QUIT POSTING ON THERE IMMEDIATELY! Not only is it EXTREMELY bad form to continue posting on a list after you've been asked not to - but it's also ILLEGAL!! Extensive, continuous, long term off-topic posting (otherwise known as spamming) could potentially lead your ISP to suspend your account, having your personal name, your domain name, and your production company's name blacklisted, and universally reviled as a major spam source. It's also possible to have charges brought up against you, since spam is federally prohibited per the Can/Spam Act of 2003. (This last one is HIGHLY unlikely, but it's still a remote possibility, if you become REALLY offensive in your promotional strategy.

Best of luck with your promotions, and have fun!

Thanks,

Mitchell Waas

THE DEFINITIVE DATABASE OF FLORIDA FORUMS:

(categorized by forum type to make it easier for promoters to post event ads in bulk!)

Key to forum type:

(ezboard) = unlike all of these other styles, ezboard is a web-based forum (most of the others require that the owner set it up on his/her own server to operate). thus many of these forums are run by people totally unfamiliar with forum structure & configuration. NOTE: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN POSTING TO MULTIPLE EZBOARDS!! - their site has a spam detection system so if you post multiple ads to multiple forums in a short span of time, your account will be auto-banned for cross-posting. Wait at least 5-10 min between postings to multiple EZboards to prevent this problem.

(ikon) = My personal favorite forum style out there, evenly tied with YaBB and vBulletin.

(invision) = Very popular board system, often crippled due to an owner unfamiliar with its massive configuration options.

(phpbb) = Probably the most common board type out there, unfortunately it's pretty miserable from a posting standpoint. Two INVALUABLE codes which are standard on 99% of the other forum types - such as centering and font changing - are absent in phpbb.

(vbulletin) = One of the nicer forum types. Very similar to YaBB and IkonBoard.

(yabb) = YaBB or Yet another Bulletin Board. One of the best out there.
